India: Health insurance for Seniors costs more than 100%
The seniors are being forced for such high premium, because the tendancy of hospitals to charge more to the policy holders. Insurance companies cites the increase in number claims by 150% in the last year, facing heavy loses for this segment of customers. The four Public Sector Units (PSUs) general insurance companies such as National Insurance, Oriental Insurance, New India Assurance and United India Insurance has increased the premiums upto 100% when compared to the last year.
In his budget, the Finance Minister of India P.Chindambaram, has made some tax concessions for people who pays for health insurance for their parents. Seniors feel that this is not enough, since not everyone’s kin contributes to it.
